Mandy Iverson
1.Tell us a funny story about a date night out with your husband.
We were newly dating and attending a wedding rehearsal. The groom has a large family with lots of kids and toys. We all took turns “driving” with a tiny golf set and hilarity ensued! After Doug’s turn, he resumed his spectator position and reached his arm around my shoulder only it wasn’t me! He looked over and realized it wasn’t me, at which he was startled by who he saw and my laughing from behind!
2.What are the (2) most important things in your kitchen and why?
The coffee pot is the most important thing. Even though Mr. Iverson doesn’t drink coffee, he knows that Mrs. Iverson will require coffee in order to be the best version of herself. The other is a sign that reads: “All I need today is a little bit of coffee and a whole lot of Jesus.” It serves as a reminder to both of us to be grateful (for coffee) and to have faith.
3.What do people assume about you that isn’t true?
Many people assume that my depth and talents are one dimensional, but that could not be further from the truth. I can wear a beautiful pageant gown with exquisite hair, make-up, and wardrobe, but I can also lace up my combat boots and carry a full military kit, while preserving our freedoms and liberties.
4.Tell us a time you demonstrated leadership skills.
Every day. I am a leader in my community, family, civilian occupation, and as a commander in the North Dakota Army National Guard. On deployment to Afghanistan, I was put in charge of operations and reorganizing the logistics personnel assets for the whole country. As a result of my efforts, I was awarded a Bronze Star and a challenge coin, by General Mark Milley, Army Chief of Staff.
5.If you had no fear, what would you try?
I am a planner by nature. Much like my Army endeavors, I’m always prepared if something doesn’t go to plan. If I had no fear, I would pursue something without planning for the what ifs. This would include moving somewhere warmer and running an animal sanctuary/rescue!
